HPS light bulbs are better for indoor plant growth than their halide counterparts because they can focus the type of light they admit, producing only a reddish yellow light, which is far more effective than the blue and violet light that most indoor gardeners may be used to. Indeed, plants grow better when exposed to the light from HPS lamps than they do in any other situation.
High pressure sodium light bulbs are also proven to be more energy efficient than halide ones. HPS light bulbs utilize 10 to 15 percent less energy than halide bulbs, and they actually produce more light with the energy they use. The more light that is produced, the better the plants grow as the HPS lamps act as artificial suns. Thus a garden can flourish better through the use of high pressure sodium lamps, and conveniently enough, so can the environment as more energy is being consumed for the future.
One great aspect of indoor gardening in general is that the gardener can create an artificial environment that will allow plants to grow all year long, even when they are normally only seasonal. Using high pressure sodium lamps provides an indoor gardener with the ability to control the situation at all times, giving him or her the power to adjust the “sun” at a moment’s notice, something that cannot be said for outdoor gardening. With the use of the right light, an indoor garden can be quite successful and last for a long time. The HPS lamps and HPS bulbs are only the start of course as a lot of the garden’s success depends on the person in control, but it normally only takes a few attempts to get used to everything.
So high pressure sodium light bulbs are healthier for plants, more efficient for the environment, and more powerful for growth. It doesn’t seem like it could get much better than that.
